About the Pikes Peak Derby Dames
PPDD is Colorado Springs' first and only roller derby league. We are a member of the Women's Flat Track Association (WFTDA), the international governing body of women's flat track roller derby.
Teams
PPDD consists of two "home" teams and two travel teams.
The home teams are the Danger Dolls and the Candy Snipers, and primarily only play each other. Every member of PPDD is placed on a home team after being with the league for a certain amount of time, and will be allowed to play in public bouts once they are ready and have passed a skill assessment test.
PPDD also has two travel teams, the All Stars and the Slamazons, who play teams from other leagues around the country. The All Stars are nationally ranked in the WFTDA and generally only play WFTDA-sanctioned bouts. The Slamazons are the "B" team, and play other B teams in bouts that are unsanctioned and don't count toward our national ranking. Players can try out for these two teams at certain times of the year, and are placed on these teams based on skill and commitment level.
History of PPDD
The Pikes Peak Derby Dames first surfaced in the summer of 2005, when one girl from Colorado Springs decided to take on the challenge of starting up a roller derby league in her home town. Founded by Slugs-N-Kisses, the league has been growing one girl at a time ever since. PPDD is a diverse group of female athletes committed to the athletic development and empowerment of women in the Pikes Peak region.
Pikes Peak Derby Dames come from all walks of life: we're business professionals (some even own their own businesses), students, mothers, tattoo artists, and hair dressers. We're rock-n-rollers, punks, honky-tonk girls...and everything in between. What we share is a passion for Roller Derby and a strong sense of camaraderie. We think Roller Derby is the greatest sport EVER invented!
More about WFTDA
PPDD is a PROUD member of the WFTDA (Women's Flat Track Derby Association), a nationwide organization created for the advancement of roller derby in America. The WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women's flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is "by the skaters, for the skaters." Female skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association, itself.
